Using iMidi

Harp Marimba

GigaStudio’s iMIDI allows various MIDI events to be filtered or remapped.  Two specific examples will be given.  The first is to remap Program Change (PC) messages to Mod Wheel Control Change (CC) messages.  MidiTzer is only capable of sending Program Changes to toggle the Harp and Reiterating Marimba sounds.  PC 111 turns Marimba on and PC 110 truns it off.  GSO does not respond reliably to PC, so we will create a custom iMIDI rule using the Rule Builder.  First download and make sure that “HarpMarimba-Stereo-Wurli2-JoeHardy.gig” is copied into “C:\TPO Ranks”.  Update the Quicksound database:  highlight the “TPO Ranks” folder in the lower left corner of the screen (expand C:\ if necessary to see this folder, then press the “F5” key.   In the Loader Pane, find the Marimba that is loaded.  Right click this Instrument and choose “Unload Selected”, then repeat if a second Marimba Instrument is visible.  Channel 12 should now  be empty.  Drag the HarpMarimba file from the middle pane of the Loader up to Channel 12.

  • in the lower right Loader Pane window, find the Harp instrument and right click it.
  • select “iMIDI.Rule Manager”

  • select “Rule Builder”
  • click “Add”
  • click “edit”
  • select “Program Change” for “Incoming Event”
  • set Data Byte1 to min=111 max=111
  • set Data Byte2 to min=0 max=0
  • select “Controller Change” for “Filtered MIDI”
  • set Controller min=1 max=1 (Mod Wheel is CC# 1)
  • set Controller Value min=127 max=127
  • click “Add New Filter”
  • select “Program Change” for “Incoming Event”
  • set Data Byte1 to min=110 max=110
  • set Data Byte2 to min=0 max=0
  • select “Controller Change” for “Filtered MIDI”
  • set Controller min=1 max=1
  • set Controller Value min=0 max=0
  • click “Add New Filter”
  • Click “Ok”
  • Click “Ok”

Test to verify that the Harp and Marimba stops toggle using MidiTzer.  The marimba should reiterate.
