Setting up MidiTzer

If you carefully read and follow these instructions, you should be able to install and enjoy the MidiTzer/GSO VTPO very quickly and easily.  If you get into a bind, reread and try again.  Never re-install your OS, audio card or GSO unless you are advised by an expert to do so.   See "PC and Audio System Recommendations".

It is assumed that you have already installed and configured MidiTzer (216, 260SP or both) to run on your system.  Now you will need to adjust certain settings to connect MidiTzer to GSO.

In MidiTzer, right click the blue title bar and select “Miditzer Settings

Click the “Output” tab.  Change “MIDI output device” to “GigaOut: Port 1 / Control” for each of the 16 channels (do this by right-clicking each device).   For the MidiTzer 260SP, starting with Sleigh Bells, change the “Chan” settings for 17 through 27 to 1 through 11 and set the “MIDI output device to “GigaOut; Port 2” for each of those channels.

Set “Vol” to “16” for all channels.  Set “Pan” to “C” for all channels.  For “Tremolo method:” select “Modulation controller”.

Click the ”Expression” tab. Set “Swell threshold” to 65.

You should not need to do any further adjustments within MidiTzer.  Instead, GSO can be used for balancing volumes, etc.

You should verify that hyperthreading is deactivated on your computer.  Generally, if your system has hyperthreading, you can find a reference to this in your BIOS and where you can set it to disabled.  Consult with the manufacturer for how this may be done with your PC.  Also, you should perform the following steps to force MidiTzer to run in Compatibility Mode:

  • Right click the MidiTzer shortcut on you desktop
  • Select “Properties”
  • Click the “Compatibility” tab
  • Check “Run this program in compatibility mode for:”
  • Select “Windows 98 / Windows Me” from the dropdown list
  • Click “Ok”

When you have completed the MidiTzer settings, select a piston and play some notes.  If everything went according to plan, you should hear the notes from GSO.
